There’s no doubt AI is transforming the legal profession. But the conversation often misses the point. The real revolution isn’t about machines replacing lawyers—it’s about the kind of legal work we’ll be able to do because of them.
Today, I use AI tools not as shortcuts, but as team members. They handle the first 80% of tasks: translation, drafting, formatting, summarizing—faster, cheaper, and often with better consistency than human teams. That’s not a threat. That’s leverage.
Where Human Judgment Still Matters Most
The 20% that remains? That’s where judgment, nuance, and strategy live. It’s where lawyers still add the most value. It’s the difference between writing a memo and knowing which memo wins the case.
What excites me most isn’t just the time saved. It’s the potential to build leaner, sharper teams—lawyers who know how to orchestrate AI, not just compete with it. In my own work, I’m already thinking ahead to the next phase: where I focus entirely on clients and growth, while a trusted team coordinates directly with AI systems to deliver results at scale.
The Real Impact: Smaller Teams, Greater Results
AI won’t eliminate good lawyers. It will eliminate the need for large, average-output teams. And that’s where the opportunity lies. For clients, it means better service. For law firms, it means smarter structures. For individuals, it means learning how to think, delegate, and build differently.

So what should lawyers, whether just starting out or already experienced, do now? Start treating AI not as a threat, but as a language you need to master. Learn how to ask better questions, break down complex problems, and refine AI-generated outputs into client-ready solutions. Whether you’re drafting, analysing, or planning a case strategy, AI is now part of your toolkit. Use it well, and you’ll do more with less. Ignore it, and you’ll risk falling behind.
